Standard Plastic Lens (Refractive Index 1.49)
Optical Lab supplies these lenses as standard at no extra cost.
These lenses are lightweight and suitable for most prescriptions however as your prescription gets stronger the lenses will become both thicker and heavier so if your prescription is more significant you may wish to consider one of our thinner and lighter lens optioned.

High Index 'Thin and Light' Lens

(Refractive Index 1.60)
These lenses bend light more quickly and so will create the same prescription with a thinner lens. Of course a thinner lens is a lighter lens so you should experience a more comfortable pair of spectacles. If your prescription is greater than + or - 3.00 you may benefit from a 1.60 index thin and light lens. We supply them complete with a hard coating to help reduce the scratches and an anti-reflection coating to reduce lens reflections and make your lenses clearer. On the high street you will often pay in excess of £120 for a 1.60 index lens, Optical Lab can supply them for a surcharge of only £60.00. Just select this lens option once you have chosen your frames.

High Index 'Super Thin and Light' Lens

(Refractive Index 1.67)
These lenses bend light more quickly and so will create the same prescription with a thinner lens. Of course a thinner lens is a lighter lens so you should experience a more comfortable pair of spectacles. If your prescription is greater than + or - 4.00 you may benefit from a 1.67 index super thin and light lens. We supply them complete with a hard coating to help reduce the scratches and an anti-reflection coating to reduce lens reflections and make your lenses clearer. On the high street you will often pay in excess of £160 for a 1.67 index lens, Optical Lab can supply them for a surcharge of only £80.00. Just select this lens option once you have chosen your frames.

Hard Anti- Reflection Coated Plastic Lens
 (Refractive Index 1.49)
These are standard plastic lenses which have been surface treated to reduce scratches so that your lenses will last longer and reduce reflections which makes your spectacle lenses even clearer. This can be an advantage for anyone who needs to drive at night, works under artificial lights or finds they need their glasses in poor light. High street opticians routinely charge around £40.00 for these coatings but Optical Lab can supply both of them for a surcharge of only £23.00. Just select this lens option once you have chosen your frames.

Transition Lenses

These are standard lenses which react to the ultra violet light from the sun. So inside the lenses remain un-reacted but in bright sunshine they darken like sunglasses. High street opticians can charge over £100 for transition lenses but Optical Lab will supply them for a surcharge of only £50.00. Just select this lens option once you have chosen your frames.
